SERGIO A. RAMIREZ DE ARELLANO, Esq., CPA, Managing Partner, received a B.S. degree in Economics from the Wharton School in 1975, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, became a CPA in 1976, and received a J.D. degree from the Georgetown University Law Center, in Washington, D.C. in 1979.

 

From 1979 to 1980, he clerked for the Hon. William H. Beckerleg, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge and was his Bankruptcy Law teaching assistant at the Inter American School of Law, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

 

He is the only attorney in Puerto Rico certified in both, Consumer Bankruptcy and Business Bankruptcy, by the American Board of Certification, the premier legal specialty organization in the United States, since 1994, and of which he was a director from 1994 through 1999.

 

He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, Commercial Law League of America, and the Puerto Rico Bankruptcy Bar.  He has also been a speaker at seminars sponsored by various organizations, including the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Federal Bar Association of Puerto Rico, the National Business Institute, the Puerto Rico Bankruptcy Bar, and the Colegio de CPA’s de Puerto Rico.  He has served on the Local Bankruptcy Rules and the Chapter 13 Plan Committees of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Puerto Rico.

 

He specializes in bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, insolvency law, workouts and restructuring, commercial and residential collections, foreclosures and real estate law, notarial law, and loan-portfolio acquisition.

In the bankruptcy field, he has represented debtors, trustees, examiners, and creditors, especially financial institutions, lenders, servicers, investors, landlords and suppliers; including representation in complex litigation.

MARYSOL LÓPEZ-GONZÁLEZ, Esq, Senior Associate, is a 1998 graduate from the Inter American School of Law, in San Juan, Puerto Rico; concentrates in default-related services, as well as residential mortgage loans, closings, title issues, REO disposition, loss mitigation and loan mediation.

TANIA M. VÁZQUEZ-MALDONADO, Esq, Senior Associate, is a 2008 graduate from the Pontifical Catholic University School of Law, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, joined the firm in 2019, after a seven-year stint at Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, where she was the Department Supervisor/Attorney for 7,500 cases foreclosure and bankruptcy cases at the Foreclosure and Bankruptcy Department (Mortgage Division).  She concentrates in default-related services, as well as residential mortgage loans, closings, title issues, REO disposition, loss mitigation and loan mediation.
